The Forgotten Yardley Jones
Build 2008
Round about December 2008 I was
asked to make a model for a Christmas present. The person in question was
someone's husband, and had already seen examples of my models on the web.
I had ascertained that his favourite era of Doctor Who was late Tom Baker
onwards, so I figured I knew which TARDIS he'd like. Thus I started on my
2nd "Season 18" build. This one went quite smoothly as having just
completed an identical model a month or so ago I practically did this one on
autopilot.
6th Dec: After the usual
boring box assembly (which was no difficult to any of my other builds), I had
painted the window frames (first in matt blue undercoat, then in gloss) and
fitted the glass. Sign boxes are on, as are two roof stacks.
As before I made two
"frosted" panes for the bottom corners.
25 Dec: Yes, I even found
a bit of time on Christmas Day to paint it. The sloped roof was much
the same as the previous one, and the lamp assembly fairly simple, but then the
prop itself is fairly simple.
One full paint job and a
matt varnish later...
27 Dec and the signs are all
on.
28 Dec: This time I
decided to go with four lamp supports instead of the canonical three, just
because I don't like the three supports, it looks ugly. The door handles
are next.
30 Dec: At this point it
was finished. I kept
the model around for a few more days before it was picked up and taken down
South as a birthday present.
