Season 24 - The Ratings

Season 23 ends on the 6th of December 1986, and 39 weeks later Season 24 begins on the 7th of September 1987.

Episode length remains at 25 minutes, but Season 24 is only 14 episodes long, and once more it is moved to Monday evenings. The best that could be said about this is that it was no longer on at the same time as the "A-Team". Sadly it is now up against the longest-running soap on British Televison - Coronation Street.

Average ratings across the whole of Season 24 show it performing about as well (or badly) as Season 23, and although a paltry 5.1 million manage to tune in to see the debut of the 7th Doctor, by the second week this has dropped to 4.2. Things pick up slightly by Week 6 and the second part of "Paradise Towers" but the season ends much as it began, bowing out with 5 million viewers.
