East Tilbury Cranes

Back

Along the coast of the Thames, near Coalhouse Fort, were 4 huge cranes.  I've looked on Google Earth and they're no longer there, although their sites still are.  There were two of them to the west (between Coalhouse Point and Tilbury Power Stations), and two of them to the east.  They were unused and rusting, but still solid and climable.  In order to get a good perspective from the height, I took a series of stereo pairs.

This first two shots is of the pair to the East of Coalhouse, and are looking first further west along the coast towards Tilbury, then looking back east towards Coalhouse Point (you can see the "Water Tower").  Each picture links to a paired picture you can freeview, or you can download the individual left and right shots below.  Some gorgeous detail stands out, for example in the second shot you can plainly see that what looks like a single crane is in fact two, and I'm standing behind both of them.  Also, look at the lamp hanging off the side, down at the right.

This next series are of the cranes to the East of Coalhouse.  For these shots I managed to get very high up onto the gantries and into the cabins. Shot 1 looks further east towards Canvey Island, Shot 2  looks back west towards Coalhouse (although you can't see it because it's a long way back beyond those poplars).  Shot 3 is very high up, looking back west, and I think the sun was going down.
