Wouldham Cement Works

Back

One of the main industries in Thurrock was Cement, due to the chalk of the Thames valley.  The far west of Grays was home to Blue Circle and Tunnel Cement.  Just over the railway line was Blue Circle's Wouldham Works.  Now a housing estate, back then it was an extensive site, with factories caked in decades of cement.  On quiet Sunday afternoons you could wander around in there without seeing a soul.

Notice the decades of cement dust caking onto the pipes and cables, giving everything a creepy "organic" look.  The first picture is the view of Wouldham Works from Grays Wharf.

The first two photos below are accidental stereo. Freeview the left over the right for 3D.
