Coalhouse Point
Visit Coalhouse Fort and walk through
the grounds, down to the river, and you'll come to Coalhouse Point.
There's what looks like an old water tower here, alongside the remains of a
concrete jetty. It looks a lot more run-down than this now, as could be
seen in a recent episode of "Spooks" (where it was referred to as "The Tilbury
Water Tower"). In fact it never was a water tower, it was a secret radar
testing site. These first 3 photos are further examples of my early
attempts at stereo.
The jetty is now a mass of rotting
wood, the concrete half submerged, and the tracks rusted away. The hut is
long gone too. There was a good view from the roof, which you could get to
by climbing onto the hut next to it. If you went up the steps you could
get into the upper room, but I never had the nerve.
